Moreover, the dredging process using this DOP250 here is the most efficient way to move this amount of sand.”

In Harlingen, a town located in the north of the Netherlands, a comprehensive road construction project is being undertaken. The job encompasses the deepened construction of a 2 km stretch of a 4-lane motorway, and the construction of 5 bridges, a railway bridge (the largest of its kind in the region) and an aqueduct for the Van Harinxma canal.

Due to the deepened layout – the motorway is “sunk” to minimise nuisance for the locals and to reunite the two parts of the town at either side of the road – a lot of sand and clay have to be moved. As a result, a building pit has been created using sheet pile, and the surrounding water is used to create a dredging site. At the aqueduct pit a DOP250, hanging in a crane, pumps the dredged mixture out thus deepening the pit. The sand is pumped to a spoil field located at a 900 m distance at the other side of the Van Harinxma canal using a supplementary booster with a identical Damen dredge pump, and a sinker pipe line.
