History in Dredging
The continuously expanding company started modestly in the late 1930s as De Groot Nijkerk, working as a dredging contractor in the construction of the IJsselmeer polders. Gradually the focus shifted from contracting jobs to repairs of dredgers, both own dredgers and those from fellow contractors. The next logical step was new building and as you know, many dredgers have been built since.
In the old days
De Groot Nijkerk was acquired by the Damen Group in 1988. It was a perfect match and both companies combined their specific knowledge of the dredging market. For years De Groot Nijkerk continued to market its stationary dredgers and trailing suction pipe systems under its own name. Eventually in 2004 we decided it was time to change the company name to Damen Dredging Equipment.

Modular approach in construction for fast response to our Customers needs
The DOP dredge pump concept is not new. It has been designed in the early 1990s by Damen Dredging Equipment together with dredging contractor Ballast Nedam. The combination of the Damen dredge pumps together with the day to day experience in the dredging field of Ballast Nedam has resulted in a compact dredging tool that fits in every corner.
